Endowed Chair of Taiwan Studies

 

Description

1. TSP sponsors endowed chairs in top universities.

2. Scholars appointed to endowed chairs shall plan Taiwan studies programs within the university, develop local or regional Taiwan studies academic communities, recruit full-time researchers, and plan collaborative research with local universities in Taiwan.

 

Funding Schemes and Funds Remittance

1. The maximum grant amount available is US$ 1 million (or the equivalent in local fiat currency).

2. If selected, the institution will receive a one-time payment of the grant amount to establish a permanent fund, and the generated profits and revenues will be utilized to support the program contents.

 

Eligibility

1. Department/schools at top universities:

(1) Universities from all countries (with a priority for Europe and the US) that have ranked within the top 1,000 in the QS World University Rankings or the top 500 in the field of humanities and social sciences in the recent three years are eligible to apply.

(2) Other research institutions deemed eligible by this program are also welcome to apply. Institutions with (but not limited to) expertise in Chinese studies, East Asian studies, politics, history, culture, and other Taiwan-related humanities and social science fields are highly preferred.

2. TSP's academic review committee may grant eligibility on a case by case basis to an institution that does not fit the above criteria.

 

Application Timeline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applying organizations shall be notified individually of the review results within 3 months of the receipt of the application. If necessary, extensions may be granted.

3. Salary reference information for the candidate (or equivalent level) provided by the applying organization.

4. Letter of consent from the dean of the college regarding the establishment of the course.

Review Procedure

The academic review committee selects the best candidates for the TSP grant of that academic year. Applicant institutions should take into account the academic review committee's recommendations and advice regarding the selection of endowed chair candidates.
